Hippotherapy (therapeutic horseback riding):
Malorie rides therapeutically at the Equest
Center for Therapeutic Riding in Rockford, MI. She started riding in early
spring of 2005 - at the age of 3 1/2. She has always ridden 2 different
ponies - Silver & Freckles - and now she rides on a full-size horse (Holly)
with a trainer on the horse with her. She rides for a 30-minute session -
once per week (Tuesdays). Riding horses is something we never dreamed that
would be possible for Malorie - but now it is - thanks to the few
therapeutic medications that she's been taking. She loves shouting "walk
on" or "whoa" - or best of all "trot!" - she loves trotting! What a big
girl!

Aquatic Therapy
Malorie swims at the
therapeutic pool at
Mary Free Bed
Rehabilitation Hospital once a week. In the pool,
she is able to stretch more freely, and work on maintaining range of motion
- not to mention having fun! Malorie can now swim 1/2 the length of the
pool on her own - a goal reached - yippee!
Therapeutic Recreation
Malorie is a part of the Grand Rapids Eagles
wheelchair sports team. The team practices once week - at all different
sports -- bocce ball (Malorie's best event!), slalom, track & field, cross
country, etc. This is lead by therapists from Mary Free Bed
Rehabilitation Hospital as well.
